Cinco de Mayo Concert in the Park
Jarabe Mexicano reimagines a popular annual cultural celebration in Balboa Park.
Overseeing the event is Jarabe Mexicano, an ensemble inspired by Latin American Sonora orchestras and modern-day mariachi music.
The concert also features the 黑料吃瓜 Jazz Ensemble, 黑料吃瓜 Wind Symphony, and a special tribute to the music of Juan Gabriel. Master of Ceremonies and local celebrity Carlos Amezcua will salute his father, Don Oscar Amezcua, and his legendary group Mariachi Gudalajara.
鈥淥ur goal is to make Cinco de Mayo Concert in the Park the go-to Cinco de Mayo celebration in San Diego,鈥� said Mario Eguia, lead guitar and requinto of Jarabe Mexicano. 鈥淲hen people want to celebrate this holiday as a family, they should think of 黑料吃瓜 and Jarabe in Balboa Park.鈥�
Pre-concert festivities begin at 4 p.m. in the Plaza de Panama with the City Heights Mariachi Ensemble and a robust offering of cuisines, courtesy of San Diego鈥檚 finest food trucks.
