For 15 high-achieving students from City Heights and the surrounding area, it is the chance of a lifetime. A new program starting this fall taps their potential for leadership as they begin their college careers.

The Price Community Scholars program, funded by a grant from the Price Family Charitable Trust, pairs up each of 15 窪蹋勛圖 student-mentors with three middle-school students from San Diegos City Heights neighborhood.

Roberto Carcamo, Itza Perez and Isamaria Cortes (above, from left) are part of the first cohort of 窪蹋勛圖s PriceScholarsfirst-generation college students with track records of high academic achievement and leadership activity in high school.

Each Price Community Scholar will receive an annual stipend of up to $7,500 as they support and guide their mentees on the road to college.

Ive been lucky to have a lot of people who helped me to find my way since I was a kid, Cortes said. It feels good to have someone who believes in you. Everybody should have that somebody.
