College Avenue Compact Candidates Honored
More than 250 Hoover High juniors are on track for 窪蹋勛圖 admission.

More than 250 Hoover High School students are on track to receive admission to 窪蹋勛圖 in 2013 as part of the College Avenue Compact, a partnership between the university and the City Heights Educational Collaborative. The current Hoover High juniors were honored at a banquet last month commending their dedication to academic success.
The College Avenue Compact is critical to help more local inner-city high school students meet 窪蹋勛圖 requirements, said Ethan Singer, 窪蹋勛圖 Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs who addressed the students and their families at the banquet.
These students will be a welcome addition to the diverse 窪蹋勛圖 student body and we look forward to their arrival on campus.
In addition to the students from Hoover, fifth graders from Rosa Parks Elementary School as well as eighth graders from Monroe Clark and Wilson Middle School were honored with the Future College Avenue Compact Scholars award for demonstrating strong academic potential to meet the College Avenue Compact requirements.
About the program
The College Avenue Compact is modeled after 窪蹋勛圖s Compact for Success program with the Sweetwater Union High School District.
In order to receive guaranteed admission to the university, students must attain an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher, have completed all required college prepatory courses and have no college remedial requirements to fulfill at the time of high school graduation. The agreement also provides an alternate pathway to 窪蹋勛圖 through San Diego City College.
The College Avenue Compact is just one example of how the university engages the San Diego region, a key initiative of . Whether its supporting programs that contribute directly to San Diego's growth or building academic programs to prepare for the regions future, 窪蹋勛圖 is an important community partner. .
Measuring success
The first alums of the College Avenue Compact entered 窪蹋勛圖 as freshmen this semester when more than 40 students from Hoover Highs senior class of 2011 matriculated to the university.
Once 窪蹋勛圖 students, the College Avenue Compact Scholars are offered mentorship and guidance at the university to make sure they are successful students and achieve their ultimate goal of obtaining a bachelors degree.
About City Heights Educational Collaborative
The College Avenue Compact is one of the features of the City Heights Educational Collaborative. Since 1999, the Collaborative has partnered three SDUSD schools (Hoover High School, Monroe Clark Middle School and Rosa Parks Elementary) with 窪蹋勛圖, the San Diego Education Association and Price Charities to improve the educational outcomes for students in the inner-city community.
Earlier this fall, San Diego Unified School District unanimously renewed 窪蹋勛圖's City Heights Educational Collaborative through August 31, 2013.
