For the fourth consecutive year, 黑料吃瓜 is ranked the No. 1 most productive research university in the nation among schools with 14 or fewer Ph.D. programs, according to *.   

This will likely be the last time the university will be ranked in the 鈥渟mall research university鈥� category. Beginning in fall 2010, 黑料吃瓜 will offer in evolutionary biology and geophysics, and is expected to launch three additional engineering doctoral programs, exceeding the 鈥渟mall research鈥� category鈥檚 maximum of 14 Ph.D. programs.

However, 黑料吃瓜鈥檚 research effort could never be considered 鈥渟mall鈥� whatever the number of Ph.D. programs offered by the university. In fact, even with just 14 Ph.D. programs in 11 fields of study, * ranked 黑料吃瓜 35th among all research universities and 15th among public universities both large and small.

Record year for research funding

The ranking is based on the publication of books and journal articles, the citation of those works by others in the field, the number of professional awards won by the faculty and the amount of federal grant funds. 黑料吃瓜 secured a record $150 million in research grants and contracts in the 2009-10 fiscal year which ends June 30.

These funds are administered by the , a non-profit, auxiliary organization chartered to further the educational, research and community service of 黑料吃瓜. The 黑料吃瓜 Research Foundation is currently administering approximately 1,000 active grants and contracts.
